How it works
Organizations can apply to the Farm Animal Welfare Speakers Bureau program for the funds to bring in speakers to discuss farm animal welfare issues and research at national or provincial gatherings.
Goals
- The Canadian agriculture industry is working to advance responsible animal care and proper handing practices in agriculture today and to avoid problems before they can arise.
- The Speakers Bureau is intended to:
- Encourage dialogue about farm animal welfare research and issues with stakeholders, including producers, processors, retailers, and consumers.
- Communicate the results of animal welfare research in Canada throughout the supply chain.
- Provide hands-on learning and training experiences to improve farm animal handling and care.
Program Specifics
- The Speakers Bureau is part of a 3-year, $700,000 program to put farm animal welfare on the agenda in Canada.
- It is a joint effort of farm animal care organizations across Canada (listed below):
- It is funded in part by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada's Advancing Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food Program.
- The Speakers Bureau is being coordinated on behalf of the group by Adele Buettner, also Executive Director of the Farm Animal Council of Saskatchewan.
